“Archetype” by Aaron Sims

March 14, 2012 — 1 Comment

This short is pretty wild. I was reading this IGN article from March 1 and it said that Twentieth Century Fox picked up the rights to expand into feature length. There is an automatic comparison to Neill Blomkamp’s success of making his short that led to District 9.

MY NAME IS PATRICK.

The description of the video is:

RL7 is an eight-foot tall combat robot that goes on the run after malfunctioning with vivid memories of once being human. As its creators and the military close in, RL7 battles its way to uncovering the shocking truth behind its mysterious visions and past.

I sort of wish I got into special effects. It seems like a great skill to have in today’s modern film-making. You should note that Aaron Sims is a veteran special effects wizard and not some random kid out of nowhere.

A movie I recommend you to watch is Monsters (2010, 94 min).

“BEWARE” — of what? Only one way to find out… watch it!

Gareth Edwards wrote, filmed and did all the special effects himself using off the shelf software. The effects in this movie is used to support the story not to make you pay attention to it. Also, the movie is not an alien movie but more like… Lost in Translation with aliens minus the charm and humor of Bill Murray.

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.

The loss of Bill Murray is a substantial loss.
